Viruses. One of the most annoying part of working with a computer—At least that's how most people would define it. Sometimes sitting down in front of your desktop and working from the comfort of home is not as pleasing as everybody makes it to be. There are always errors. And something always has to go wrong.

Let's hope this tutorial can help reduce your worries about viruses.

Where to Get a Free Antivirus

Installing an antivirus is easy, however, finding which software really does the job could take more effort. The three most popular choices are as follows:

1. Avast Free Antivirus

Avast has a complete set of antivirus and antispyware engines to safeguard your PC from attacks coming from the internet. Avast however, is a trial-ware. After installation, you are given 30 days to see if Avast really fits your need. Then you can decide to purchase it. If you don't want to purchase Avast, and you wish to use it for more than 30 days, be sure to register your own account on the form which will appear after the installation process. The form may ask you several information but the registration is free.

2. AVG Free Antivirus

AVG Free Antivirus is a cross platform free-ware, which has all the functions there is in a commercial antivirus. AVG has an arsenal of antivirus and antispyware tools, including email scanners, link and surf scanners, scheduled scans, and automatic updates.

Avira is ranked #1 on several top antivirus list on the Internet. (Speaking of which, the applications reviewed in this article are not ranked in any particular order.)

Although the antivirus is free-ware, AVG also offers a premium version of it called Internet Security 2011. It has loads of options not included in the basic free package of AVG such as real-time surf, search and social networking protection, faster scan rates, and many others.

3. Avira Free Antivirus

Avira is a brand also worth mentioning on a list for leading antivirus freewares. Like AVG, Avira is a free software that has almost all functions found on a commercial antivirus. It has basic virus protection, malware, and spyware tools. Avira has a rather interesting detection level settings. The lowest detection level may report less errors but will never generate a false warning. On the contrary, a high detection level would trigger virus alerts once a potential threat is found, regardless of how much of a threat there really is.

What Avira may lack in support, it makes up for simplicity and regular database updates. Avira is quite easy to install and use. Downloading the virus is also fast and straight forward. Moreover, the average computer users prefer Avira over more complicated antivirus programs.
